Amsterdam

Saturday, April 19th, 2008 @ 8:25 am | Amsterdam

This is one of the most famous cities for being controversial and a true eye-opening experience. Amsterdam really will be an impact as soon as you touch down on the tarmac. Home to the red light district and unique ‘Smoking’ policy, many visitors enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and energy that this vibrate place brings.
For a beautiful hotel the Renaissance in down town Amsterdam offers a four star service with a fitness centre and on site restaurants. Prices start £270 per person based on two-night stay in May. Alternatively, for that bargain choice the Hotel Inn is a better option. Close to the RAI train station and to the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, it is in an ideal location.
Price for this hotel is around £230 based on the same nights stay.
There is plenty to see and do in Amsterdam.  One favourite, which has to be seen, is the Museum of Anne Frank, which is based in the original Annex that the family hid in for so long. Entry is €5.50 and it is advisable to get there early, as a queue round the block is enviable.  If you have read Anne’s Diary then this will be a moving experience, as it will bring the turmoil and the suffering of these eight people to life and you will remember what others died for to end the Second World War.
In addition, the Van Gogh Museum is well worth a visit. The Famous artist has over 200 paintings and 600 drawing on display. If you are a big art fan then this is necessary treat to see some real treasures created by Vincent van Gogh.
For a good evening in Amsterdam, a fantastic restaurant maybe what you are looking for. The Sluzier Restaurant is a relaxed environment; where you can sit back and enjoy the evening unfold.  The food is great but has more of a French inspired menu rather then the typical Dutch. The décor is a comfortable one and a two-course meal starts roughly at €70. If you fancy Chinese food, you could always go to China town on Zeedijk Street. Bargain noodles are at every tune and the manic and busyness of great food being prepared and enjoyed, is all part of the fun of dining there.
Amsterdam is a beautiful city with many tales of woe and history that is engraved into the houses that line the rivers and streets of this amazing city. With The floating flower market to visit and night boat cruises that show how romantic this city is, there seems to be endless reasons to why this place is favored by many and why it’s exciting to those first time visitors.
