Berlin is a fantastic city with a tragic past. From the boundaries of the Berlin wall to the city being completely vaporized by English bombs in World War II, sadly much of the history of the city was destroyed.
Nevertheless, what a great city Berlin it still is. There is no excuse to not visit, as flights are truly a bargain. Ryanair www.ryanair.com start flights from as little as £10(Including Airport Tax) from London Stansted and arriving at Schonefeld, Berlin. Flights start at 6.25 and the last flight of the day is 21:55. The Berlin Airport is small but all your tourist information is provided there and of course, that quick bite to eat. Taxis are available outside the front entrance and a bus and train service is pretty much next door to get you to the city itself. A quick train ride into the City Centre will set you back about €5.
Berlin is still clearly divided from when it was once split during the cold war. However, that is what makes it so unique as the West and East could not be any more different. The West has a premium feel with all the expensive designer stores and restaurants. Blush apartments and shopping malls line the streets as well as the English, United States and French Embassies.
Checkpoint Charlie marks the end of the West and brings the East. Museums are right next to the checkpoint to educate those on the history of the Berlin wall and the pain and desperation people lived through to get to the other side. The East has that Russian feel to the neighbouring buildings and shops. It also has the interesting Museums to see on that side of the city. Such as the Jewish Museum. Modern art and history has been bought together to betray the lives of Jews from when time began, through the wars of the world to present day life. The amazing layout of the building and its dedication to the Holocaust is worth seeing alone.
The City does not really come to life until the evening. The Wintergarten Varieté near Friedrichstraße station offers a circus like show with jugglers, clowns, Magicians and acrobats. You will be seated at tables and waiters will take your orders for meals that will be served during the breaks.
If the Circus shows of Wintergarten does not suit then try Milchbar. A bar dedicated to Punk, Rock and Thrash music that is more likely to be filled with Students and music lovers. Mayor sporting events are also screened on their TV’s which completely changes the crowd to a more energic one.
For hotels there are many to chose from the Ackselhaus http://www.ackselhaus.de/ which is very family friendly to the Propeller Island City Lodge which is a extrem hotel experience. Padded cells to sleep in? If you don’t believe me take a look for yourself. http://www.propeller-island.com/

Berlin is a bargain flight away and you won’t regret the money that you spend. From the Reichstag which is nearly unreconizable from the orignal to the amazing height and sight of the Brandenburg Gate at night. Berlin is must-see city for all.
