New York
The Big apple – What a great name for a city that is so diverse and inspirational.
New York has always been a favourite with families and lovers for years and after all this time it still has not lost its appeal.
Nevertheless, the best thing about this American city is the Bargain prices you can fly there for.
Zoom www.flyzoom.com offer fantastic flights to a range of cities including New York and prices start from as little as £250 return (including Airport tax). There are varied flight times through out the day but you have to be fast as at these prices the seats go very quickly. JFK Airport is great for Transport links into the City. You can get the Subway, which will be about $7 or call for a registered taxi that will set you back about $20. Usually the favourite for holidaymakers is to take the famous Yellow cabs from the airport but be careful as sometimes they charge more than they should. Once in the City, taking a Yellow cab is fine and very reasonably priced.
As you can imagine there are hundreds of things to do and see that any big City has to offer. The Empire State building is essential but queue early in the morning as you will then miss the crowds. Also Times square is simply amazing at night and if you have never seen it before then you will never forgot how amazing and vast it is. The City is broken up into little areas such as Chinatown, Little Italy and the Meatpacking district but the best way to see this city is to walk the streets and breathe it in. Like all major cities, New York can have its Dangers. Pick pockets operate in the streets and subways but Police are frequently around and you generally feel safe walking around at nighttime. In addition, to help you get home the Subway trains run 24 hours a day.
Bars and Clubs are everywhere you turn and draw in a number of different crowds. Bette (above) http://www.betterestaurant.com is a bar/restaurant on West Street that has fabulous cocktails and great food. Many Celebs such as Nicole Kidman have dined there for its cosy atmosphere and friendly staff.
For an even cosier and rather popular restaurant, there is August on Bleecker Street. It gets busy there so make sure you book a couple of nights in advance. For that sweet tooth, Magnolia Bakery also on Bleecker is a great place to stop for that late night Cupcake. Once featured in Sex and the City, the Cakes are creamy and a Bargain at $4 for two!
Hotels are as raff as the bars in Manhattan with many unique ensembles for different tastes. For the more traditional hotel, the Milford Plaza (right) is just six blocks from Fifth Avenue and one block from the famous Broadway, which of course is fantastic for the shows and great shops. This classic New York hotel will keep your Holiday experience alive, even while you are sleeping. www.milfordplaza.com.
Alternatively, for a more irregular choice there is the Library Hotel http://www.libraryhotel.com that is situated along Madison Avenue. There is a reading room and literally, every suite has a bookcase full of books, which are inspired by the room for the occupants reading pressure. It has a wonderful home feel to it that you will not want to leave.
